TRALLEİS ANTİK KENTİ
Aydın ilimizin yerleşim alanını oluşturan verimli topraklarda, antik dönemde Tralleis Kenti yer almaktaydı. Kuzey ülkelerinden Yunanistan’a gelip koloniler kuran Dor’lar buradaki halk üzerinde baskılarını arttırınca yöresel halkta Anadolu’ya göç ederek küçük yerleşimler kurmak zorunda kalmışlardı. Yunanistan’dan bu bölgeye gelen Argoslular ile Trakya’dan gelen Tralleis’liler tarafından İÖ. 13.yy’da kurulmuş büyük bir yerleşimdi. Kentin ticaret yolları üzerinde olması ve Menderes ovasının bereketli topraklarının sağladığı bolluk, yaşayan halkın gelir düzeyini yükseltmişti. Kent tarihi hakkında fazla bir bilgi olmamasına karşın bölgedeki Pers hakimiyeti sırasında kentinde işgal edildiği, İÖ 334 yılında ise Büyük İskender’in yönetimine geçtiği bilinmektedir. Seleukosların ünlü imparatoru 1. Antiokhos kentte büyük önem vererek pek çok yeni yapı inşa ettirmesi yanında, yüksek sur duvarları da inşa ederek kentin savunmasını güvence altına aldı. Kent İÖ 133 yılında Roma hakimiyeti altına girdi.
Roma İmparatorluğu döneminde gelişemeyen kent, bölgede İÖ 27 ve 24 yılları arasındaki yaşanan depremlerde büyük zarar gördü. Roma İmparatoru Augustus’un yardımıyla biraz toparlansa da ticari açıdan bir gelişme gösteremedi. Bizans egemenliği sırasında önemli bir psikoposluk merkezi olan şehir, 13.yy’da Selçuklular tarafından işgal edildi.
Şehir 1.Haçlı seferi sırasında kısa bir süre Bizans yönetiminde kaldıysa 1280 yılında Menteşe Bey tarafından tekrar Türk hakimiyetine dahil oldu. Daha sonra Aydınoğulları topraklarına, 1426 yılında ise Sultan II.Murat tarafından Osmanlı Devletinin sınırlarına içine alındı. Ünlü coğrafyacı Strabon’un yazdığı Antik Anadolu Coğrafyası isimli kitabında Tralleis’ten ‘Mainados ovasındaki önemli bir kent’ diye bahseder.
Strabon, yerleşimin bir tepe üzerinde kurulmuş olmasının kentin savunmasını kolaylaştırdığını ve halkının civar şehirlerine göre daha zengin olduğundan söze eder. Tralleis aynı zamanda Ayasofya’yı inşa eden ünlü mimar Anthemos’un doğduğu şehirdir. Aleksandros ise özellikle epilepsi tedavisi konusundaki çalışmalarıyla tanınan devrin önemli hekimlerinden birisiydi.
TRALLEİS’TEN GÜNÜMÜZE Tralleis’ten kalan kalıntılar bugünkü Aydın şehrimizin Güzelhisar mevkisinde görülebilir. Burada görülecek en önemli yapı halk arasında Üç gözler diye bilinen büyük bir gymnasium’a ait olan kalıntılardır. İ.S. 2.yy’ da Roma döneminde yapılan bu gymnasium, daha sonraki yıllarda eklemeler yapılarak hamama dönüştürülmüş ve yıllarca hamam olarak kullanılmıştır.
Hamamın alt döşemesindeki geniş odalarda yakılan odunlardan çıkan ısı kanallar yardımıyla tüm hamamın içerisine yayılarak tabanının ve duvarlarının ısınmasını sağlamaktaydı. Gerekli sıcak su ise büyük bakır kazanlarda ısıtılarak elde ediliyordu.
Hamam o devrin en büyük hamamlarından birisi olmasına rağmen gene de ihtiyacı karşılamadığından yan tarafında küçük bir hamam daha yapılma ihtiyacı oluştuğunu görüyoruz. Buraya su getiren kanallar günümüzde kısmen görmek mümkün.
Kazılar sırasında birde yer altı yapısına rastlandı. Bu Üç gözlerin yakınlarından başlayarak şehrin merkezine doğru giden yer altı tünellerinden oluşan bir yapıdır. Bu tünellerin saklanma amaçlımı yoksa şehre su getirmek için mi yapıldığı bilinmiyor.
Devrim Erşen Türkiye’nin Antik Kentleri kitabında ( Sayfa 208 ) Bu yapının Pergamonlu Krallar tarafından silah deposu ( Arsenal ) ve savunma amaçlı bir kale olarak yaptırıldığını ve Roma döneminde ise askeri işlevini yitirerek metal ve cam işliklerinin yer aldığı bir endüstriel konum kazandığından bahseder. Aydın üzerindeki araştırmalarıyla tanınan ve ‘Bitek topraklar üzerinde Aydın’ adlı kitabın yazarı olan arkeolog Şükrü Tül ise bu yapının şehre su getiren kanallara ait olduğunu savunur.
Büyük bir tiyatro’nun yeri belli olmasına rağmen kazısı yapılmamıştır. Stadyumdan’da pek bulgu yoktur. 1899 yılındaki Aydın depremi sırasında padişah’ın özel izniyle buradaki taşlar alınarak başka bölgelere götürüldüğü için antik şehirden günümüze ulaşan fazla bir bulgu görülmez. Bulunan az miktardaki eser ise Aydın ve İstanbul’da ki Arkeoloji Müzelerinde sergileniyor.
